Terry's US Military Career

Basic Training

• In June of 1964, Terry Whiteside enlisted in the United States Navy and undertook his basic training at the San Diego Naval Training Center (NTC), in California.

Assigned In Texas

• Terry was then transferred to the Naval Air Station in Corpus Christi, Texas where Vietnamese pilots would receive training by the United States Armed Forces.

Vietnam Service

• In August 1965, Terry was given orders to serve a 1-year "Tour of Duty" in Vietnam. He was assigned to the US Naval Support Activity in Danang, Vietnam, patrolling the waterways in river boats.

USS Salamonie

• Upon returning from Vietnam, Terry was assigned to the USS Salamonie from 1966 to 1968, after which he resumed his civilian career.
